Dear Customers,
Allow us to supply you with an update on the situation on our rail lines to/from Rotterdam, which is unfortunately developing worse than we had expected.
Thank you for the knowing and patience you have shown in connection with the planned rail closure of RSC Rotterdam terminal (see our Newsletter 91/2025 of 03/09/2025), for which we prepared and informed you in advance about the measures (cancellation of trains, change of ETA/ETD).
Unfortunately, before the port closure and in the first fewer days after it ended, there were respective serious accidents on the rail network that were beyond our control but have had a major impact on operations on key corridors. These mainly concern the situation in the Elbe Valley and the accident in Emmerich, see our Newsletter 100/2025 of 26/09/2025, and now besides the derailment of a third-party train in Falkenberg, Germany, which occurred present at around 3:00 a.m.
These unforeseeable events caused massive congestion and instability in traffic. Not only our trains, but the full network is struggling with a domino effect of delays caused by reduced track capacity.
Initially, we assumed a fast stabilisation after the end of the closure, but now it can be expected that the full restoration of the standard timetable will take longer, at least until the end of this week.
We apologise for these complications, which are beyond our control, and assure you that stabilising operations is our top priority. Our dispatch centre communicates intensively with infrastructure managers to safe slots for our trains.
